What is the spatial context? Why does it matter?

Nowadays there are dozens of tools to keep track of on a construction project, reports, RFI's, field notes, & site photos saved in a folder somewhere. All are useful for their primary purpose, but often it is difficult to visualize where issue #244 is located on a site. Having a 3D digital twin platform allows you link all your project data to a 3D environment. Now you don’t have to use your imagination, but you can see exactly where issue #244 is located. Every field note and every site photo is spatially located within your project plans.

But humans don’t always think in terms of floor plans, when we think of checking the progress updates we might think “floor two mechanical room”. Beyond linking photos to a floor plan, Cupix now allows for text-based search & navigation with Rooms. Search for “aisle #12” or “main lobby” to quickly see all progress and documentation for that area. Now all site capture, notes, and RFI’s can be spatially contextualized and queried within CupixWorks.

Rooms group site capture data together allowing you to manage and filter your project by areas within the site plan. A room is defined as any space divided by boundaries, such as walls, ceilings, or poly-lines. For example, a conference room, a restroom,a parking lot, a reception area, or west wing. A Room can be a literal room or any named location in your project. A Room allows you to search and navigate by text such as: conference room, lab 225, parking lot B, upstairs lobby, or west wing.

"There are already rooms in my Revit file. Can I use them?"

Yes! Rooms are automatically extracted from Revit files when uploaded to Cupix.

Revit's room is conceptually very similar to our Rooms. Here's an explanation of a room from Autodesk's knowledge article.

A room is a subdivision of space within a building model, based on elements such as walls, floors, roofs, and ceilings. ... Revit refers to these room-bounding elements when computing the perimeter, area, and volume of a room. You can turn on/off the Room Bounding parameter of many elements.

"We don’t have rooms setup in our Revit for our project. Can I still search by room names?"
